1. Pick one category and own it
Most successful private label beauty lines start narrow. Choose one of the six categories we supply — color cosmetics, makeup tools, makeup bags, nail products, cosmetic packaging, or pimple patches & blotting papers — and build a small range within it before you expand. A focused first order is easier to sample, easier to sell, and far easier to reorder.
For most first-time brands we recommend starting with 2–4 SKUs. That is enough to test demand without tying up all your working capital in inventory.
2. Understand the MOQ before you design
Every category at Lonyard runs a unified MOQ of 5,000 pcs (or sets). The number matters less than what it buys you: dedicated tooling, stable color matching, competitive per-unit pricing, and fast reorders — as fast as 7 days once the first batch is approved.
If 5,000 feels like a lot, remember it is a production baseline, not a sales target. Your distributor, marketplaces and retail buyers are typically placing those volumes themselves.
3. Decide: OEM or ODM
ODM (private label) means you pick from our ready formulas and stock packaging and put your brand on it. OEM (custom development) means we develop a formula, shade or packaging shape around your brief. ODM is faster and cheaper; OEM is more differentiated.
Most first lines are ODM. Brands that grow into a signature texture or shade usually graduate to OEM.
4. Sample first, then commit
Sampling at Lonyard takes 3–7 days. Ask for a sample that matches your target market — Korea, Europe & North America, the Middle East or Southeast Asia — because regulatory and packaging expectations differ.
5. Plan your packaging and compliance early
Packaging components, gift boxes and labels are all part of the same supply line. Decide your label language, ingredient list language, and any market-specific warnings before tooling. Getting compliance right at the start is cheaper than reworking later.
6. Place the order, then reorder fast
All categories ship on unified FOB terms. Once your first batch is approved, reorders can turn around in as little as 7 days — which lets you chase sell-through instead of guessing months ahead.
